Here's a TED talk I watched the other day. He talks about one of the fundamental truths of being a human - we are as sick as our secrets:

The philosophy he describes is that if we want to become the people we are capable of becoming, we MUST get rid of *all* of our secrets. It is most difficult for those of us who have shameful secrets we wish to hide from everyone else, but freedom isn't granted to those who choose to hide.

Another way of putting it, to use a quote from Jesus - "The Truth shall set you free."

I have translated this to mean that we must tell the truth of what is in our minds and in our hearts. For in telling the truth and exposing our worst secrets to the light of day, we can be released from the shame the binds us in isolation.
