For me, childhood seemed LONG and ... well ... just way too long.

In my eyes, my kids' childhood is a fleeting glint.
From their mouths, they confess its all going too darn fast.

Any thoughts?

As long as I can remember I have felt like an adult.

It is only very recently that I have been able to start to recapture some brief glimpses of memories of childlike feelings.

But I remember as a child wishing for what seemed like forever that I could be on my own and leave everyone I knew behind.

I meant to say that even as a 5-year-old I felt old beyond my age. I can recall feeling like I had to take care of my mom and "protect" the family from knowing what was happening to me outside the home and from outsiders finding out what was happening inside.
