Tikkun Olam

I am the little boy with holes in his shoes and second hand clothes
I am the teenager without lunch money, buying groceries with his birthday money
I am the man who got work to adopt your family and brought your son his first bike
I am the man who helped make sure the kids on free lunch have food on the weekend

I am the unloved boy, ignored and alone
I am the fatherless son who needed you
I am the Father who builds Legos and listens to you talk about the game you just got
I am the Father who comes to class parties and was excited to read The Spooky Old Tree to your class
I am the Father who tells you he loves you a million times a day

I am the silent boy stuck with your secret
I am the shamed young man who has never been himself
I am the young husband who thinks he might be gay because his body responded
I am the husband that tried to push you away
I am the man who’s no longer silent
I am the man lowering his defense and letting people in
I am the husband doing my best to be present

I am the boy with a broken past
I am the man trying to heal his world in the present
It's okay to find the faith to saunter forward
With no fear of shadows spreading where you stand
And you'll breathe easier just knowing
that the worst is all behind you
And the waves that tossed the raft all night
have set you on dry land

You are a loving husband and father many would envy to have.

Tikkun Olam - indeed, you are healing the world.

Oh man, this. Yes. This is really what I needed to read right now.
Sometimes it feels like the world is so shitty and heavy. But yes. It really is small kindnesses that heal the world. Little things can be such huge victories.
Anyways, thanks. Shalom.
