Okay, I just read that Andrea Yates was found NOT GUILTY by reason of insanity!! HOW!?! Man, this just hit me like a ton of bricks.

I understand that she suffers from mental illness. But, the reports talk about her receiving "congratulations" from family and friends. CONGRATULATION!?!? She freakin' murdered her children...ALL of them!!!!!!

This case is TOO close to home...literally. I drive by the street where it happened EVERY single day. I always say a prayer for those children.

I don't want to judge or be harsh...but NOT guilty? She is guilty...mentally ill or not. She knew what she was was pre-meditated. I didn't want the death penalty for her but at the very minimum...a GUILTY verdict!

Sorry...this brings me back to where I was five years ago on June 20, 2001. I heard the news and just curled up and cried. Five innocent their mother.

Where is the justice?

This whole case was a really hard one for me to digest. On the one hand, I wanted her head for what she did to those children; I was a rabid lunatic when it first happened. Then things came out. The woman was mentally ill and did suffer from postpartum depression and psychosis; not once or twice, but after the birth of each of the children. Between her and her husband they made horrible mistakes in choosing to have more children, knowing full well what she went through each time and in spite of doctors telling them not to. He walked away because it was her who was alone with the children when her mind went over the edge.

I'm angry because 5 innocent lives were lost. I'm also angry because a mentally ill person did not get the help and support she needed to avoid the loss of those lives and I'm angry because the husband continues to live on the outside and can rebuild his life yet six people don't have any such option.

Its a horror no matter how you look at it.

ROCK ON......Trish

I have to say I share your outrage at the way this one ended. I just can't believe it.

On the other hand, I understand how the law works in a case like this. Insane means insane and therefore not guilty, regardless of the number of victims.

What I can't bear to think about too much is this one. What happens if she can be successfully treated? How will she ever face what she has done? I cannot imagine a more terrible punishment for a mother than knowing she is the murderer of ALL of her children.

Much love,
