As I think of my upcoming drive to San Antonio, I have this daydream where I drive up to my old house, open the passenger door to my truck, and my 11yo self hops in. We make our final getaway from that old rotten place.

Iíve been looking for you for many years
Iíve been thinking of you with many tears.
Youíre a missing part of me thatís cool.
A boy with a heart who was no fool.

I know youíre waiting for me there.
Iím planning to come get you with great care.
Iíll welcome you with open arms.
Mark my words, Iíll do no harm.

Iíll be there soon, it wonít be long.
When I arrive letís sing a song.
Iíll look at you with long lost joy.
Hereís the plan, my long lost boy:

Iíll pull up in my big red truck.
Itís tough and sturdy, itís brings me luck.
Iíll look for you from across the street.
After all these years, weíll finally meet.

Stand by the corner of the fence.
Jump over as I call you hence.
Come to me quick, and no time waste
The car door will be open, so do make haste.

Once youíre in, close that door tight.
Pretty soon weíll be out of sight.
Imagine, you and I together again
Two long lost parts with so much to gain.

I think of you often as you wait in the yard
You know Iíll come get you, though the wait is hard.
Youíre in my thoughts, my prayers, my heart.
Youíre special to me, a long lost part.

Money talks, but all it tells me is goodbye.

If I could meet myself as a boy...

I think this is what Little Andy needs to hear. He needs to know that he's doing this - YOU have decided. But he also needs to feel safe and he needs to believe he is being led, not dragged.

I think it comes down to this:

I know youíre waiting for me there.
Iím planning to come get you with great care.
This will be a rough trip, but I hope it will be a healing one for you bro.

Much love,

Nobody living can ever stop me
As I go walking my freedom highway.
Nobody living can make me turn back:
This land was made for you and me.
(Woody Guthrie)

I like that. Dealing with you wounded inner child. I still exist as that child every day. The idea of separation sounds like a major growth step, and that you're moving forward.

That is so moving. I'm sitting here with tears on my cheeks. Thank-you for sharing it with us.

Lots of love,

Hey, Andy. After you pick up Little Andy, could you drop by and pick up Butch? He'll be sitting on the steps waiting for you. He really needs to get out of there, and I can't seem to get back there to get him. Just open the door and let him jump in, squeal those tires, and get the hell out of Dodge. Don't look back. That truck sounds like a warm and happy place! Thanks!

I'm healing now, and I wasn't sure I would.

Thanks for sharing. This the second time I read this and I am just as moved by it this time.

To me, this conveys a sense of urgency. If you are anything like me, you had better find a place to pull over as soon as possible because I'd have to many tears in my eyes to see to drive.

Love ya.
