Driving West, I dream of the past
an exploration

Dreamlike ribbons
hard black roads,
Slither and turn beneath my wheels

I am driving across the bottom
of a dried-up sea

Ages ago ancient corpses of
dead, decayed sea-creatures
dissolved into pools
of sought after riches

Now lanced and drained
like so many putrefying boils

"Smells like bread," they chirrup
"and butter."

Wave upon wave
flat dry land
infested with
mechanical insects
pumping piercing.
Up and down
In or out
Oh you'd like that

I seem to be an old house
slumping in decay
With the slightest of shudders

All paint peeled,
blown away
Sand blasted skin laid bare
raw members aching to be used

Life lived here once

Dreams came by,
but did not stay

Ribbon focused sadness
becomes that sorrowful snake
Rising to strike
My poison greeted
with no sympathetic sigh

I too know the disappointment
of death without rest

Sad restlessness
Refusing to fall

Scarcely recalling
Reason to stand

Will they find my carcass to burn for

Or shall I become a hard, sharp diamond

Stone scratching
across their vision
Welling bloody drops
To bless my oblivion?

How many snakes must I ride
before I return to my home?

Driving forever
On the bed
Across the

Of this gone-away sea

O Mama
why did you
ever let me leave?

"Poke salad Annie, 'gators got you granny
Everybody said it was a shame
'Cause her mama was aworkin' on the chain-gang"

I need to reflect on this--there is too much to comment now. You are surely visual! I not only feel, I can see your scene of the journey.
