In a moment he will leave
And I will go out with him
He does this every day

I become him.

I squeeze into his body
Sort of an oozing in
And fill out the parts
And function
And smile
And work
And accomplish

And know the whole time that something is wrong
That he is running on air
That substance is gone
He has been created from my imagination of what
a man should be
What I should be
What they wanted me to be.

And I have done it for so long now
That I cannot change
Cannot go back and pick me up
Find me
You know...before

And so I do this thing
This "Lion King Costume with the poles" kind of thing.
It fits
I can do it
I'm good at it
I created him

And when I get home
I let him fall off onto the floor
And let myself out into the air
Like a snail coming out when the coast is clear,
And sigh
And relax

Until someone comes
And I pick him up
And do a quick ooze back in
An emergency ooze.

I've lived my life this way
And I'm about "oozed" out.
I long to just throw him in the trash and never ooze into his shell again.

But think about it...
A snail without a shell?
How far would I get?
Maybe five minutes of refreshing air and then....

Gotta go
He's leaving
Going to work
Gotta "ooze".

I'm healing now, and I wasn't sure I would.

That is the masquerade we all have used trying to get by with our secrets intact. Nicely written. The "ooze" sounds like a painful way to describe the tight fit your self idenity takes you. It makes me sad for you.
