I write this poem to you, myself,
My anguished self,
My frightened self,

What frightens you, my son?
Does everything frighten you?
Are you frozen with fear?
Is that why you do nothing?
What have you to fear?
Your world is not so bad,
You eat
You sleep
You work
You are loved.

For God's sake stop!
Stop badgering me to go on!
Can't you see I don't want to go on?
Can't you see that I would go on if I could?
I don't want to know.
I don't want to find out.
Can't you see that it would kill me to find out?

You are already dead if you turn back now.
Turn back before you know.
What will you do, cover it over like some old wound and let it fester?
You cannot stop. You must go on.

But it hurts, here, here in my heart
Here in my soul
Here where I live
All of it hurts so bad
Can't you make it stop?
Can't you make the hurting stop?

The hurting will never stop.
How can it?
Look what he did to you?
The wound is too great,
The scar too deep.
You will always hurt.
But perhaps you will understand,
That will lessen the hurting.

Just please go away and leave me alone.
Let me stay here.
Let me stay here in the darkness.
Let me live here in the darkness.
He cannot find me here.
He cannot hurt me here.
Just let me die here alone.

He does not need to find you, my son.
You have found the darkness.
His work is done.
He has destroyed you
And here you are, licking your wounds in silence
In darkness
Come out with me
Come out and live
You haven't long you know
To live
To know
To bask in the sun, to be free
Come out with me, my son and we shall rejoice together.

Not today
No, not today
Yes, tomorrow I will come
We'll dance then you and I
Tomorrow we shall dance
And sing
And rejoice

Tomorrow may be too late
But I will come again tomorrow
And reach my hand into your darkness
Will you take it then, my son?

Perhaps....perhaps I will take your hand then
Perhaps...if I am ready.

Perhaps...if you are ready?
Enough then
I shall be here once again tomorrow.
And, boy....

I'm sorry for your pain.

I'm healing now, and I wasn't sure I would.

Man Bobby, thanks. I needed that. Hit me right between the eyes. I wish the tears would come and flush all this away. Your poem is excellent.

thanks again, Dan
