I saw a TV mom today, she treats her son so gentle.
I wish my mom was just like that, not raving like she’s mental.

I missed out on the TV mom while growing up in shame.
My real mom was so harsh to me, and on me placed the blame.

A TV mom would love me, and cover me in bed.
Not yell at me and scorn me, or smack me in the head.

The TV mom is careful to praise her son with joy.
My real mom was disappointed I was born a boy.

The TV mom was careful what her little boy would see.
My real mom was careless with what affected me.

I wish the TV mom would come and play with me all day.
Not ignore me or just yell at me “You do as I say!”

A TV mom would protect me from danger all around.
My real mom would become danger at the slightest sound.

The TV mom would not abuse, at best she’d point a finger.
My mom tore through boundaries to cause pain that would linger.

I don’t have a TV mom to comfort me today.
I only have my real mom, from me she’s far away.

Money talks, but all it tells me is goodbye.

If I could meet myself as a boy...

Wow, Andy. That is a very poignant poem. I can relate, although thankfully my Mom and I are now close.

Thanks for sharing. I hope it was helpful to you to write that.

Lots of love,

That's such a powerful poem, and I hope it helped you to get all these feelings out. You deserved so much better.

Much love,

Nobody living can ever stop me
As I go walking my freedom highway.
Nobody living can make me turn back:
This land was made for you and me.
(Woody Guthrie)
