I found this article very helpful. Its by Barbara Brown Taylor from Christian Century Magazine.

It casts the concept of "failure" in a whole new light.

I found it to be very comforting, especially now. . . when I'm tempted to feel like I am such a failure at my marriage, my vocation, and at being honest with myself.

here is the link:

can i tell you something that may seem weird?
for some reason - i am reminded of that old story of the icarus and the wax wings -

he felt so proud and full of himself that he could now fly with the wings he made - but got too close to the sun and they melted and he fell down to earth in a heap -

as the article says failure does bring you down to earth - and it can be seen as an "opportunity" to learn - learn more about 'how was i fooling myself there?' - or as you said - how was i not being honest with myself?

it is very hard stuff to deal with -
i think it is part of the abuse too that
failure is ingrained in us as an essential flaw in our natures -
at least that is part of the abuse - on me -
yet the standard was a falsehood

i just hope you can be ok with yourself and take the opportunity to see any challenge as an opportunity - peace -

thanks for this article -

Yeah... I'm basically OK... even with myself.

The closer something is to our sense of identity:
The more painful it is;
The more difficult it is to put into words;
The more complex it is to resolve;
the more time it will take to resolve;
the more I need help from others;
the more dependent I am on God.

I'm just dealing with stuff that I know is really close to my identity. So I have to find some sort of language to borrow...
