Some guys at work were casually talking about some sort of organization (don't want to give details) that promotes incest and even have some publication with suggestions on how to approach a family member for sex. More than the subject itself, what blew my mind is watching them all talking about incest and sex with family members like they were talking about the weather.

Later on the same day, I turn on the TV and see some show about a guy that seduced his own brother to convince him to kill their father. (talking about trash TV).

Here in Philly they have the GL International Film Festival this week. There's a german movie about two brothers, one of which seduces the other to "rekindle" a sexual relationship they had in the past. The movie review describes the story as "out-of-the-ordinary", and that the focus is "aging boy pop stars".

So therefore my question. Is incest all of a sudden something glamorous? Is this the new trend that the media wants to exploit? I don't know the rest, but it does bother me to see these things treated so lightly.

Those guys at work need to be reported to HR. That kind of talk is totally unacceptable in the workplace and is abusive to those who hear it. Reporting it could send a message to those guys, one or more of whom might in fact be an abuser at home. Nobody ever brings up a subject like that unless they are interested. Others might participate in an inocent way, but the initiator could have a problem that needs to be cured right now.

If you don't have an HR dept. consider reporting to an outside agency.

I thought I was a rarity in thinking the world has gone MAD!! These horific acts of promoting incest truly outrages me... I had suffered from incest & to this day have terror from it as compounded with clergy rape---they only support further abuse with their denial & hiding psycho ministers of all faiths. Those German film makers need to hear from survivors & know the infinite numbers of those suffering in silence!! I just share again that unified voices must stop this insanity which floods our globe!!!! Thaks for sharing this, David, & know I am here, John:) \:\) \:\)

The world remains mad, I think. People are just talking more openly about the awful stuff.

So, I guess I also have to come to terms with the likelihood that along with just looking the other way, adults were thinking it was okay that I was abused in the ways that I was. It seems obvious now but it didn't really become something that I am conciously aware of until reading your post.

Sick?--yes, just like it always was.

As people talk about it, like your co-workers did, I hope there are just as many people talking about what incest and other forms of abuse really are and about what it does to kids and the adults they become.

Little by little, I am speaking up about it. As I do, I am finding out how little people really know about abuse and its effects and also finding out the wrong ideas they have about it.

I'm not saying that anyone else here should take that route, especially if it doesn't feel safe. I'm just saying that it is one of things that helps me keep alive in a mad world.

Sometimes, things just won't work the way we want them to.

I don't think those people were talking about what incest really is. I found irresponsible for them to talk about such thing in the workplace. I also found inappropriate that the tone of their conversation was sexual. It wasn't that they were in any way talking about incest to uncover it with the purpose of avoiding it or protecting people from it. They were talking about it in an encouraging manner, giving each other hints on how to approach a family member for sex. They were giving incest some sort of glamour.

Those guys aren't that deep. Is not that they were even seeing incest as anything wrong or bad, leave alone dealing with it in a healthy fashion.

Talking about incest is a good thing in a place like this board, in a support group, with your therapist, and to the police if you are reporting a perpetrator. But as a watercooler conversation in the workplace, and then endorsing it, talking about how much they lust after a relative? I don't think so. I think that's very sick.
