This is only meant to be informational, not confrontational or anything- if anyone is interested in reading about a conference held by the ex-gay movement & Christianity.

I had a hard time reading some of this and had to walk away a few times before finishing it.

I think it shows where these nut-jobs are coming from and it's very very sad to see how they are hurting so many people in the name of religion. Although I never participated in any ex-gay program or sessions, I have had conversations personally with one of the ex-gay leaders.

A good read:

Jim and Russ,

When I read your posts I thought Oh no, another mad fringe organization talking nonsense.

But it's good you post about this. Yes, it's all nonsense, but these days people are prepared to listen to it! That's the danger.

Take care,

Nobody living can ever stop me
As I go walking my freedom highway.
Nobody living can make me turn back:
This land was made for you and me.

Jim, thanks so much for sharing the article. I'm a gay male survivor and I was involved in an ex-gay ministry for three years from 1987-1990 in Santa Monica, California. The name of the ministry was Desert Stream- it was one of the first Exodus International Ministries and was lead my Andy Comiskey. Eventhough I'm now openly gay, Desert Stream had a profound and significant influence in my life. I met my best friend who is also a male survivor. I was eqiuped to deal with issues such as compulsive masturbation, idolatry, and pornography. I learned how to talk about deeply personal things in a small group setting. There were 8 members in my small group- 4 of which are now married to women and the rest of us are living openly gay lifestyles. Desert Stream provided me a very safe place for me to come out and experience being loved and accepted. I recently split-up with my boyfriend of three years. He is pursuing the ex-gay lifestyle and I believe it's what's best for him at this stage in this life. I truly believe in accepting all people especially ones that choose an ex-gay lifestyle. It's not my choice but I understand why some folks might choose this path.
