I never thought about blaming oneself as being a way to feel in control of your own safety. That makes a lot of sense.

What I find disturbing is the idea that all survivors are women in these cartoons, and all the perps are guys. Guys are mostly perps I think but not always, and guys are often victims as well, Hence this site. The myths continue.

I liked the info in it though.

Good info. Never thought of it like that. But yeah, it makes me feel like the world thinks of me as not existing or as basically a male woman.

Wow!

Blaming yourself for what you did or didn't do makes you feel like you have some control and the world isn't as unsafe makes such sense to me. (yes, I am paraphrasing) BUT WOW!! I get that. Makes the world less scary if you can feel as if you could have done something to stop it.

Powerful! Thanks for sharing.

I got that too! I never thought of the self blame that way. That enlightened me a lot about why he blamed himself, self loathing, etc.

I am bumping this post because that cartoon is brilliant. While I get the complaints that it doesnt include male victims - the way I took it was the story of a SPECIFIC victim, since it was the same female character, and same male silhouette.

That really is eye opening about the guilt thing. And then that leads a direct line to shame - since suddenly - the victim becomes the perpetrator in their own eyes. And that of course leads to self loathing.

It helps me see how my husband feels the way he does.
