Police have charged 10 people from across southern Alberta after a four-month long child pornography investigation.
The operation, dubbed "ICE Storm," targeted suspects who shared child pornography images and videos using a variety of peer-to-peer file sharing networks.

A total of 13 search warrants were executed throughout southern Alberta, beginning last December.

Det. Justin Brookes of the Calgary Police Service speaks about a four-month child pornography sting known as Operation 'ICE Storm', in Calgary, Thursday, April 10, 2014.

They were carried out by members of southern Alberta's Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) team, with the assistance of the RCMP, and members of the Calgary and Lethbridge police forces.

More than 330 computers and electronic devices were seized as a result of operation ICE Storm, police said in a statement.

Investigators estimate they could contain thousands of child pornography photographs and videos.

"ICE forensic analysts and technicians will begin the painstaking process of analyzing the seized devices for more evidence, and more charges could be forthcoming," a statement from the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams said.

Despite the 10 arrests, however, ICE team member Sgt. John Guigon, said investigators still have a lot of work ahead of them.

"This operation is actually going to have a minimal impact on the flow of those child sexual exploitation videos and images (in Alberta)," he told reporters Thursday.

Guigon said he hopes operation ICE Storm will send a "strong message to those people who are inclined to search for, share, horde those images."

"The message is that we are watching, there is no anonymity out there for you."

The suspects who were arrested as a result of the investigation range in age from 22 to 65. They face a total of 30 criminal charges, including possessing, accessing and making available child pornography.
