I dont know what's more amazing: the whole poem together, so many individual lines, the message to me reading it, what it says about you and yourlife... At a loss. A very hopeful and intensely real poem. Thanks for posting it.

Awesome poem Husky. And for the record you are more then worth, and beyond tough. You are gifted and strong, and I'm glad you're my friend. Thanks for posting!

I read it last night and wanted to read it again before posting. Here are some lines that really struck me.

[Yet everywhere I look, throughout the sea,
There are people, struggling, just like me.]

Reminds me how we really are never alone even if we feel that way. Everyone has their stuff they are dealing with not just SA victims.

[Yet this time, it looksa little bitstrange?
Greener and brighter; I sense a little change
I see things I swear I couldnt see before
Trees and mountains, and even the shore.
Then I realize, an encouraging, hopeful truth -
One that's eluded me in all of my youth -
The waves had trapped me in a state of disarray,
But I'm getting closer to that island, every single day.]

This part is SO COOL! We make progress even when we don't realize it or can see it. Sometimes I guess you just have to hold on and believe better times are coming.

[Maybe theres a point, a purpose to all this.
Maybe theres meaning to this whole abyss.
A test, to see if Im worthy enough;
A test, to show that I really am tough.]

If I were grading you certainly would pass! I think the measure of person is seen by how they deal with adversity. You are doing quite well I think.

Thanks for the poem. I'm printing this one out and keeping it close by.

omg!

you have described, very well, the horror i went through the day i experienced drowning off the coast of Kho Samui in Thailand.

it got swept out with a rip tide, tossed by huge waves,
lost my mind and my consciousness several times,
but still managed to make it back to the island.
unfortunately i did not even have a piece of wood to cling to.

this ordeal lasted for quite some time,
the sun set and i was force to struggle in pitch black.
if it wasn't for my future wife's voice calling me,
i would never have known what direction to swim.

your poem put me right back there in the water.
this is the paradise in which i nearly died.

cheating death changed my life forever.

any way, your metaphors are more than realistic.
they kicked me into a flashback.
you sure know how to picture and portray it poetically.

have you actually experienced drowning?

no apology necessary.
that was a terrible horrible experience,
but the results were 1000% positive.
i don't mind being reminded.

there is a whole lot more to that story, of course.

i ended up living on that island for about a month.

so you are another farang? (tourist in thailand)
koon pai nai? (where did you go?)

pom poot pasa thai nidnoi. (i speak a little thai language)
song roi khram na ja dai (200 words possibly)
pom pak yu tee nan hok dueng (i lived there six months)
chop mueng thai mak mak. (i like the country very much)
sabai dee. sanuk. (good feelings. fun)
khon thai soi. (beautiful people)
tongkhan klap me. (i want to return)
tae mai mee ngoen. (but not enough money)

kop koon krap! (thank you)
sawasdee! (see ya!)

sorry if this phonetic thai is illegible.
i can speak it, but i can't write it.
