i didn't know the backstory on this when i first heard it. i took it as an expression of care and protectiveness from an adult survivor to his little boy self. it works that way for me, even though it is actually about a failed adoption. but i guess that analogy could work too - i have seen such wonderful examples of that dedication among survivor biological parents and survivor adoptive parents (you know who you are). i have learned something about nurturing my child self from you, too, guys!
