The Egg by Andy Weir

an amazing short story! i love its underlying message. it's very short - takes about 3 minutes to read. sort of a mystical allegory - NOT to be taken literally. i guess it has been around for a while but this is the first time i've encountered it.

here is what the author said about it:

"I wanted to come up with some way to look at the world such that life was fair. A way where everyone came out even in the end. This is what I came up with."

great story.

very neatly sums up one of my "reality" theories.

the very same concept occurred to me during a psychedelic experience i had way back in the late 1970's.
i took too much lsd during a concert and had this vision that every person in the arena, including the performers, workers, and the entire audience was ME at some other point in my infinite spiritual lifetime. it was overwhelming!
i felt as if i had been shattered into billions of fragments.
all of a sudden, the disguising and posturing and cloaking and masking going on between people seemed like a colossal waste of energy.
it was counterproductive and crippling, this dance of deception.
i completely lost interest in the music and all the mating rituals.

when i saw some guy get his head kicked in by a group of rowdies, i freaked out from identifying with his suffering.
not one person lifted a finger to help this guy as he was stomped into the concrete.

i had a panic attack.
i had to leave the venue and i ran for a couple of miles until i was physically exhausted. then i went home alone.

anyway, thanks for the link.
