I loved stuffed animals, teddy bears, sock monkeys.

I still have a few from my toddler times.

managed to hang on to them through thick and thin.
that's how much I love them.

I used to talk to them and gave them all names and characters and roles and histories.
a pet required too much maintenance.

yes. I will still cuddle and sleep with a stuffy just for fun or comfort once in a while.

so what.

Thanks for bumping this up.

I have no mementos from my childhood. Nothing.

BUT- 5 years ago I had surgery. I was alone and in the prep room awaiting the roll of the bed into the Op room. The nurse asked if I needed anything. I told her I wanted one of the teddy bears the little kids received because I was nervous. And then we laughed. But deep down I was serious.

One nurse overheard and said, "You can't have that."

My duty nurse said, "Oh, yes he can."

And she disappeared and came back with a beautiful, fluffy, white teddy bear that I keep pristine clean by laundering periodically with bleach.

When I become unsettled, I hold on to him as I fall asleep. And no one knows.
For now we see through a glass, darkly.

I got a blue elephant I hide from my parents. I don't sleep with it or anything but I don't want to throw it away either. I have it since birth.
The first step to living the life you want, is to leave behind what you don't want.

When I was very little I had a blue bear and a brown bear that I was inseparable from. I called them simply "Blue Bear" and "Brown Bear". I have no idea what happened to poor Brown Bear. I hope he's still living up in my parents attic in a box somewhere and that someday I'll find him. My Blue Bear I have, although the years have taken their toll. I have posted this pic before, but here he is again, sitting in his place on my desk with some oter little stuffed friends I have acquired as a adult. smile

I didn't have any stuffed animals to speak of. I think it was my father's decision. He was afraid it would feminize me or make me gay or something. When I was 8 I asked for grandmother to make me a little stuffed kitty like she gave to my sister. When it came it was not at all delightful.

Don't sleep with it but still have it.
Gordie was his name, after Gordie Howe from the Detroit Red Wings.
Wasn't a wings fan, but my dad was drafted by them and played with him.
He was small had a rubber face and blue body. He sustained many repairs by mom, and has part of his ear chewed off, from me.
Actually my son still has it, and at 25, he won't get rid of it.
I didn't even know he still had it until last week, and this touched me.
Presence is the key, for all we have is now.
All we ever have is right now.

When this thread was new I posted about my Teddy bear that the step-dad threw away. I have never seen another like him -though I have searched on line. while going through mom's old photos a couple weeks ago I found a picture of me at 2 1/2 holding him by one ear and a bottle of orange Nehi in my other hand. I felt like we had been re-united.

How long, LORD, must I call for help, but you do not listen?
Or cry out to you, “Violence!” but you do not save?
Why do you make me look at injustice?
Why do you tolerate wrongdoing?...
Therefore the law is paralyzed, and justice never prevails....

Oh gee you've just reminded me of Fred Bear, his nose was a bit worn but when you turned him over he made this growl, I can still hear it
