Yesterday two very important steps were announced ...
by our Prime Minister no less ...

Go to

Reference ... "Sheldon Kennedy"...

Sheldon was a major player in the NHL.
Several years ago he went public about abuse at the hands of
his very high profile coach ... sending him to jail.
Other guys came forward too.
Since then he has worked tirelessly on our cause and
this is about a major commitment here in Canada,
backed by the Federal Government, to help
boys/men who were abused.

Reference ... NHL ... (National Hockey League)

They have announced a 'zero tolerance' policy on homophobia in the league.
I believe they are the first to announce that, and a few other major league sports organizations are to follow soon.

Granted ... this isn't going to help us directly ...
but it will help the boys of today ... and tomorrow.
Experience is a brutal teacher.

I find that the work done by activists like Sheldon Kennedy and Theo Fleury DOES help me, even though I was CSA'd over 50 years ago. It's wonderful to know that (a) more pervs will be stopped, and (b) more boys will get the help they need. More boys will speak up about sexual abuse when they hear tough guys like Kennedy, Fleury and other sports heroes talking about it.

And let me boast one more time that I met Sheldon Kennedy at a US Senate committee hearing here in DC, and he signed my copy of his book, "Why I Didn't Say Anything." :^D
