I could not be more thrilled than I am right now. I have been agonizing over how/when/where to tell them that I was abused by a priest who they knew well when I was a teenager. They could not have been more supportive, and I cannot tell you how amazing it feels to have that weight lifted off my shoulders! It was hard to see the look of hurt come across their faces as the words sunk in, and I know they will have their own trials as they deal with this new knowledge just as I have had to do, but I figured I would share this success story smile As my T has told me, what other people think or say when I disclose this information is none of my business. What matters is that I share my story and free myself from the burden of carrying it alone.

Bravo, Mike.

We're all proud of you!

I'll be just fine and dandy
Lord, it's like a hard candy Christmas
I'm barely getting through tomorrow
But I won't let sorrow get me way down.

Way to go!

I'm planning to do this in April.

I've got this life
And the will to show
I will always be
Better than before

This is excellent to hear. I am glad that they are for you and can now be part of your support network. I recently disclosed to my father and to my step mom about my abuse and four them to be equally supportive of me and my journey in healing. Kudo for finding the courage to tell them, and congrats on this amazing step in healing!

Congratulations to you Mike. I'm very glad that it was a great experience. Only last week I told my mom about my abuse, so I can relate to the feeling of a weight being lifted off your shoulders. You showed your compassion by recognizing the hurt in your parents, but it's a big step to put your healing first. I hope your healing journey continues to go well.

What a great post. I too had a good experience disclosing. I REALLY like what your T had to say too.

I'm not advocating this for others. But I have a tattoo of those 800lbs flying off my shoulder. Its an anvil with 800lb with wings. laugh

Feel proud and keep at it.
