T's, and doctors in general, can be insensitive about helping us navigate the insurance maze, which is by its nature confusing and complicated.
I get triggered by the insurance confusion and maybe you do too. Until I stop and focus and deal with it one step at a time, my insurance confusion makes me upset and angry.
If you can afford to go out-of-pocket for the session and get your insurance to reimburse you, then call your insurance company and ask them how that process works. My guess is that it is complicated and there's a good chance you get screwed by it, but that's just how American health insurance works.
If you think the T is being insensitive to your issues, then keep looking... but if he's a T with experience working with survivors, it might be worth the hassle, because a good T who understands us and our needs is not easy to find.
You could also ask the T if he will do give you a rate on a sliding scale without dealing with the insurance company at all.
Good luck. Deep breaths. Keep us posted.
