Father Michael Kelly of Stockton, California was found guilty by a civil jury of sexual assault of an altar boy in the 1980s at the Cathedral of the Annunciation in Stockton.

What makes this case unusual is that Kelly's supporters from his congregation showed up in droves every day in an effort to intimidate the jury and the victim.

Read the comments by them in the news story below after he was found guilty yesterday. Sickening. They even attack SNAP, the group for victims of priests

Then Kelly- who has been removed as a priest, gave a tearful "I'm innocent" speech to his congregation. Very inappropriate of him.

Both the victim and Kelly testified at the trial. Here's what Tim Lennon of SNAP had to say about the victim's testimony:

Both Kelly and the plaintiff testified, and the alleged victim's courtroom breakdown was one of the defining moments of the trial, according to a man who attended multiple hearings.

"He was in Day 2 or 3 of testimony and cross-examination, and he had an outburst," said Tim Lennon, of Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests. "He pointed and yelled, 'You raped me, I was just a kid,' and it came from the very core of him as a person. It hit me to my heart, and I assume it had a similar effect on the jury."

Thanks to Kelly's victim for his courage and bravery. Congratulations to lawyer John Manly ( who appeared in the documentary about abuse "Deliver Us From Evil" ) for his win. There are many other victims of Kelly out there. Please contact the police, or get a lawyer. There are sure to be in statute victims out there, and they could help build a criminal case against Kelly.

The plaintiff's attorneys also argued Kelly had victimized multiple children, but testimony from an alleged second victim was not allowed into trial.

Here's a description of Kelly's sickening "I'm innocent" speech to his congregation yesterday:

Three hours after hearing the verdict in his civil trial, a teary-eyed, choked up Michael Kelly faced an emotional congregation.

Earlier that afternoon, he was held liable on three counts of assault, sexual assault and abuse. He had been removed as a priest, stripping him of the ability to lead his congregation just before Easter.

"Practically speaking for now, and several years to come, I cannot be your pastor anymore," he said as his voice cracked. "It breaks my heart, but I can't. That is the way it is written. As much as I love all of you, I have to obey what the rules are."

Yet he maintained that he is innocent, and reaffirmed his plans to keep fighting.

"I am disappointed in the verdict," he said. "The charges against me are not true they didn't happen. These allegations aren't tru

More than a hundred parishioners gathered at St. Joachim Catholic Church in Lockeford, where Kelly has served as priest since 2004. The churchgoers hugged one another, clutching tissues and listening to Kelly's every word through bloodshot eyes.

Thank you pluck,
This is the evidence that proves that those perpetrators who are protected from the law by outright accomplices and those who through tacit approval ignore and deny the actions have no remorse, no guilt and no morality.

Please respond to pluckmemory, please let him know that there are others out there that have survived, and find healing relief.

I ask all his supporters in the parish if their child had been a victim--a there is always the possibility because victims do not always come forward until decades later-would they be standing there today in support. It sickens me. It seems people only think of themselves, brainwashed by the institution and a child of another parent is disposable to some people. Victims at all ages are the victims over and over again-family members deny them and believe the almighty priest is a hero and proclaim the victim a liar--this is how it feels when I read of the blatant ignorant support this priest has received. I can tell being Catholic I can see many people I know walking in support of the priest and saying victim get over it or you are full of sh**.

Hopefully he never returns to coach and guide young people. And I hope the supporters do not wake up one day and learn their own child was abused and feared telling anyone including them--does the environment of support created by adults make a child comfortable speaking of their abuse. Hell no in my mind.

Canon "law" says that Catholic clergy can lie, if they think it's necessary to protect the church. Looks like the parishioners feel free to chime right in! They must be so embarrassed by the behavior of their priests that they want to shout down any more bad news.

On April 6, 2012, a civil jury unanimously found Father Michael Kelly guilty of sexually assaulting a 37 year old man when he was ten years old and an altar boy at the Cathedral of the Annunciation in Stockton.

In addition to working as a priest at the Cathedral of the Annunciation in Stockton, Kelly has also been the priest at St. Joachim's Catholic Church in Lockeford from 1994 until last week, when he was forced to resign.

We know that there are many victims of Kelly out there who have too afraid to come forward. Now, the brave victim who spoke out in the civil trial has paved the way for you; please come forward.

I am a victim's advocate and not affiliated with law enforcement. If you are a victim of Father Kelly, or know of one, please send me a private message here and I will send you my phone number.

STOCKTON - The jury in a civil trial found that Father Michael Kelly should be held liable on three counts related to child molestation, according to the lawyer of his accuser.

Attorney John Manly said Friday a civil jury unanimously agreed his client, a 37-year-old man identified in court papers as John TZ Doe, was molested by Kelly while Kelly was a priest at Annunciation Cathedral in Stockton. The plaintiff was a student at Annunciation school in the 1980s.
