On 4-5-12, just 3 days ago, it had been one year since I have been sober from any alcohol. This has been the longest time since I have been sober in 21 years. I was sober prior to the 21 years but, only because I was married. Five (5) years, prior to that I had been drinking since I was 10 yrs old.

I would drink in order to drone out the feelings of wanting to be invisible. I no longer feel the need to drone out any feelings today.

I owe lots of gratitude to several of you including MB and puffer. You gently encouraged me to be more than just being invisible.

On with the rest of my life as a healthy sober individual.

Congratulations, man!
you are a great encouragement.
and good to hear from you again.
hope you'll pop in whenever you feel like it!

How long, LORD, must I call for help, but you do not listen?
Or cry out to you, “Violence!” but you do not save?
Why do you make me look at injustice?
Why do you tolerate wrongdoing?...
Therefore the law is paralyzed, and justice never prevails....

Congrats! Amazing thing, man. I saw many go to rehab and still drink so I really mean that's amazing, man. Keep going! Best of luck in the future. I wish you godspeed!

A guy opens the front door and sees a snail on his doorstep. He picks up the snail and throws it across the street in a neighbor's yard. A year later, the guy opens the front door and the same snail is on his doorstep. The snail says, "What the f*ck was that about?"

That is wonderful news Avery. I've been in and out of AA since I was 16 so I understand how much work it takes to sober that long. I'm at 4.5 years now and I'm 49 so I understand when a person has difficulties stopping - but you proved it can be done.

Good job! Very inspiring!

Thanks you guys!!! You are my brothers in healing.

This is an important milestone in my life's journey. Up until a year ago, I had been drinking for 37 years. I started when I was 10 years old. I had been hiding this behavior from others for 37 years. I hid from my friends, my family and from God or so I thought.

I hope my sharing is good for all. I have been in the pits of hell - well the pit of hell on earth anyway. I remember when I started to post here on 2-20-2008 - yes 4 years ago - I totally believed I was not going to make it to today.

"I" made things happened. I told others on here as well as those around me in person what I was feeling. I did not think, survival was possible. I thought telling my story or how I felt was going to kill me or that others were going to kill me. I can honestly say my heart is open. I can speak my truth and hear - really hear - other peoples truths.

Life might seem unliveable but, I am here to tell you, Life is beautiful.

You are all wonderful!!!!

My, brother, Avery,

Congratulations on your anniversary being sober.

It's a tough road for us alcoholics to hold for sure. After all it numbed us out from other things that happened to us.

It is a tough battle trying to recover not only from CSA but our alcoholism at the same time.

Again congratulations from a fraternal brother who has been sober for 35 years.

Wishing you continuing healing on both fronts, my brother, Avery.
