This, i'm sure is not a new topic, nor a unique problem, but I was wondering if anyone else who has problems falling asleep.......what you do to help yourself.

I'm sorry if I asked that in a really weird way, but you see, I'm right now so sleep deprived that I can barely think.

Or, if any of you guys have found a particular medication helpful, what might that be.

Thanx for your help

Take care everyone

no problem Log! ask and u shall receive dude!

ok - with me what helped me - cause i have a pattern of not sleeping was diet -

a baked potato an hour before sleep - pretty much plain - gave me the carb fuel to last through the night - i was so numb that i found it was the lack of food that would trigger my nerves and wake me up -

we do need fuel to sleep - so that info from a nutrition guy - was helpful -

sometimes - i drink milk -

sometimes- i can sleep with nothing -

and keeping water by the bed helps me too -

because thirst can make me go get water - and once up and stuff - i can't sleep

hope that helps!

Good ideas, Mark, i think that I've tried most of those.
For me it is in the amount of physical exercise and lack of nap. Of course, I'm an old guy and naps are important, but if I don't nap too much and get the good ole 3 miler in, I usually can get at least four hours.
Good luck,

What works for me is I play a Cd that has my favoriate songs on it. It play for about an hour and then it shuts off.

This relaxes me and I seem to fall asleep a lot easier. I do this also to keep the demons in my mind and the thoughts at bay while going to sleep.

Hope this helps.

If you are currently taking an anti-depressant you may want to try something like trazadone or remeron. You will need to consult your doc about it but it's just a suggestion.

For me and insomnia which I have battled for years I finally got a combination from my psychiatrist of both mood stablizer Neurontin and finally beacause of my thoughts and nightmares she added 1mg of Guanfacine (tenex) which now helps between 4 and 6 hours of sleep.
Aside from medication, I try to read something very boring with a very dim light. Bright lights trigger your brain to be more alert so keep the lights low. Try a boring book. It sometimes works for me. Good luck, I do hope you get some rest.

I have tried a number of methods - like reading, listening to quiet music but most helpful has been ambien. Plus getting some exercise during the day seems to make sleep happen more easily. Another item is not to go to bed if you are not sleepy. The bedroom is meant for sleep - not watching TV or reading. If you can't get to sleep don't stay in there otherwise it can become a torture chamber for us. Also I almost forgot is to journal if you can't go to sleep. As far I can read everyone has great suggestions, you just need to experiment and see what works for you.

i've never slept well, but i can't say mine is flashbacks or anything. i just dont sleep well. i go a few days or weeks, get desperate and knock myself out with a pill or with something to drink. then i die for a night and start it all over again. i find it helps if i can stop my mind from wandering. if i can focus on one thing, then i can unwind and fall asleep. the problem is i dont stay asleep.

Sleep for me has been very difficult and I have been on meds as well such as Ambien,Neurontin now trazadone but these are all intertwined with health issues as well and then a good bottle of alchohol at night with the meds to knock me out if it does at times it won't knock me out.

Another option is I might try what another gent said here try to listen to a cd and shut everything out if I can sometimes this works and at other times it does not work so you need to find out what works for you as we all are different but same in regard to our issues that we may face every day especially when it comes down to the abuse.
