Ah, yes. The Roman salute. Showing true allegiance. Not much different than the swastika, a peace symbol in some cultures, and in some native American cultures it's called the "Walking Man".

The official pledge is
"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

My preference for those representing us is
I pledge allegiance to individual rights
in the United States of America,
and to all private persons
under whom I serve,
one nation, of individuals,
under any Gods or none,
with liberty and justice for each.
