First of all thank you to all the contributors of this site. I have found the information posted extremely resourceful and helpful in helping myself and family understand whatís going on with our loved one.

Now, a little about our situation. A family member has recently came to us about an sa that occurred when he was a child, roughly about 20 years ago, which from reading posts seems pretty common and we also may have identified a trigger that may have made him come and talk to us about what happened.

However, we may have handled things the wrong way at the start of things. He had a breakdown on Saturday night and we let him know that in the morning we would try and find him help or someone to talk to. First thing Sunday morning we began doing research on trying to find a specialist that he could speak to but unfortunately thereís not many doctors working on a Sunday. We finally got through to a psychiatrist that was on call for an office that was willing to give us some advice and that was that if he really needed to talk to someone that day to go to a local hospital (specifically Beaches Baptist Hospital in Jacksonville, Fl.) and ask for a mental intervention therapist or something like that so thatís what we did. To make a long story short, an emergency room doctor came and talked to him for about 5 minutes and basically utilized the Baker Act and sent him to a state run mental health center (which the majorty of the patients there are homeless and/or are unable to make decisions on their own) of which he had no choice but to go because he was labeled as suicidal.

We have finally been able to be put in touch with the doctors there and they have let us know that heíll be released tomorrow and that after the psychiatristís evaluation of him that he never shouldíve been sent there in the first place and there were mistakes made. Unfortunately I feel as if he now is discouraged in finding help after this whole ordeal but that he understands that he still needs to talk to someone about it.

So I guess my request is for any information about psychologists. Psychiatrists or therapists that specialize in handling male survivors as I have not had much luck in locating such information in the short amount of time weíve had to look. Any information about where to find doctors, or networks or anything specific to the Jacksonville, Fl. Area would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for listening and sharing, all the information Iíve been able to read has been such a big help already.

If you don't find anyone close to your location on the referral list make an appointment with a therapist or psychologist in your area regardless of their spepcialty and ask for a referral to a therapist whose specialty is men who were sexually abused as children.

That was the only way I was able to locate a therapist. I looked without success and finally just made an appoinment. It took a bit but I got what I was looking for.
