Here is a poem I wrote during the May 2008 Weekend of Recovery in Dahlonega. I also read it during one of the small group sessions during this May's Weekend at Dahlonega.

A Company of Brave Men
Today, I met a brave man.
He never stormed an enemy outpost.
He never dodged a storm of bullets.
He never rushed a burning building
thinking he would rescue someone from the fire.

And yet, he is a brave man.
He faced himself and dared to look.
He saw the past.
He saw the wrong.
The wrong to him;
his wrong to others.
He faced it squirming;
fighting the almost overwhelming urge to turn away;
to bury again the hurt, the guilt, the shame.

Today, I met a brave man.
I am that man.
And you are too,
and you, and you, and you.

Today, I met a brave man.
So, now, I can proudly say
that I have been in the company of brave men.

We are bound together by the pain of the past and our hopes for the future.

Hi Gerald & Christianfather.

A great poem.

It sure says a lot about us brothers/my family.

Brave men, indeed.

Heal well my brothers/friends.

What a great sentiment, and so true. I have seen so much on this site, and still I am awed at the courage I see every day here.

Much love,

Nobody living can ever stop me
As I go walking my freedom highway.
Nobody living can make me turn back:
This land was made for you and me.
