Mods..not sure if this is the right forum. I debated between here and the Spirituality forum and chose here. If I'm in the wrong apologies.

Earlier in chat I had a brief discussion with someone about God. I am not a religious person and with my cult up bringing combined with my sexual preferences I have a difficult time believing God would care about me. I was assured by this person that God does indeed care and that I was being prayed for and had been for a while since a previous discussion.

Later on as I checked my personal email, this was waiting for me. I dont know the person who sent it, it was just a random thing. A lot to times I find it extremely difficult to do what is stated..I thought about how this would apply to my life..what are my cups? I thought it was a good message even for those who arent sure or dont believe in God. This combined with the conversation earlier gave me a little peace after a pretty rough day.

Let God Decide

A group of graduates, highly established in their careers, got together
to visit their old university professor. Conversation soon turned into
complaints about stress in work and life.

Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and
returned with a large pot of coffee and an collection of cups -
porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal, some plain looking, some expensive,
some exquisite; telling them to help themselves to the coffee.

When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor said:

“If you noticed, all the nice looking expensive cups were taken up,
leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is normal for you to
want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems
and stress.

Be assured that the cup itself adds no quality to the coffee. In most
cases it is just more expensive and in some cases even hides what we
drink. What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you
consciously went for the best cups… And then you began eying each
other’s cups.

Now consider this: Life is the coffee; the jobs, money and position in
society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain Life, and
the type of cup we have does not define, nor change the quality of Life
we live.

Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee
God has provided us.”
God brews the coffee, not the cups… Enjoy your coffee!

“The happiest people don’t have the best of everything. They just make
the best of everything.”

Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest
to God.

Hi behindthewall. I just want to thank you so much for sharing this little story. It's a great analogy for life. I enjoyed reading it and it put a smile on my face. Again I am grateful for your willingness and kindness to pass this along for others to enjoy.

Thank You.

I enjoyed that analogy and it got me thinking. I always leave the fancy cups for everyone else. You stated that it is natural to only want the best for yourself, but I struggle with that. I always considered it a bad thing and is rooted in low self esteem. I always thought that I didn't deserve the fancy cups, but after reading the story, is my attitude for better or worse?

Thanks for sharing.

Riley..I didnt write it, just passed it along. Believe me, I'm right there with you in thinking that I do not deserve the fancy cups. That's what I have been told my whole life..matter of fact I haven't had a good cup yet in my life. The difference is before I never thought I deserved a better one but now I find that I am trying to throw the old cracked ones away, the ones that I have been forced to use since birth. My new cups are not those in the, jobs, position those things dont matter to me. I'm looking more for the cups of trust, self love tho I don't know if that one is possible and maybe a little self confidence. Anyway, that was my thought process in regards to that.'re welcome. Glad it made u smile.
