I have talked to the Ph.D. students i work with but i was wondering if anybody here has done one?

The ones i work with are in university from 9am to 10pm a lot of the time and work weekends too. It seems very absorbing. Are all Ph.Ds like that?

My dad got one when I was a child and I remember it being very time consuming, but also very fulfilling for him. He did his thesis on something to do with mouse eyes or something.
