When I was small, an innocent child
People said I looked like an angel
Pale blond hair and bright blue eyes
A cherub, some said, sent down from heaven
Maybe I was an angel, I can't really say
But what I know for sure is the Devil was real
People thought it was heaven but it was really hell
You see angels don't win, the Devil prevails
"Jesus loves me this I know" I sang
But there was no salvation, no saving the child
The Devil had a song all of his own
But that song was pain and the melody harsh
I heard about God and endless love
But what I knew was evil, unending pain
I heard the songs of love and hope
Meant for someone else, not me
How can an angel be brought so low?
How did the Devil triumph that night?
How can innocence be quashed by evil?
Where is God, why am I abandoned?
I have not the answers despite all the years
But I am sure that this Devil resides in hell
And I'll be damned if I ever forget
The angel that was and the one destroyed
I will no more curse his name
For hatred is the Devil's game
An Angel I may never be
But the Devil no longer resides in me
"I finally have my heart!"
To the perps: Don't worry about me coming after you. But you damn well better watch out for God! "Vengeance is mine", saith the Lord
