wounds of self define, shattering the illusion of wholeness.
tracing the pain of the past in lines of unhealed self hate.
one visible path for each demon mirror from inside the dark and the deep.
pain to remind that i feel, pain to cease the confusion.
scars showing the history of fractured emotions
letting the pain out just for the regrowth of pain to restart.
a canvass for the world to see and follow the roads of pain
etchings of the skin each hiding a secret never telling
pills and talking to the woman in white, ease the flow of pain they said.
followed the rules like a puppy from the pound, all eager and wanting love.
opened the past and spoke the vile words of history.
confusion set in, so emotions and feelings are to be human.
know the words but not the act, pain is the friend that releases the past.
scars are the way i have travelled and markers of time moving.
can you see the scars, look closer, can you see the scars on the inside.

The certainty of pain... sometimes the only thing we know to be real... that we can count on.

I want to look closer, but to do so, I need to come closer.

Can I?

Proud of you Ben.

This is so honest and so powerful. Thanks for your courage and generosity in sharing this with us. It has only been within the past few years that I stopped wondering about "the marks" and whether they still show. But you're so right - the scars on the inside are the ones that threaten us.

Much love,

Nobody living can ever stop me
As I go walking my freedom highway.
Nobody living can make me turn back:
This land was made for you and me.
(Woody Guthrie)

Wow, thanks for that powerful poem Ben. As Larry said, that was so honest. Goes right to the core...

Peace and love...
