On then off
I want these thoughts.
Control of the past
And no dictate of the present
Is a demand which can not be had.
You poisend me without me knowing.
Why? What was the reason?
Turning the pictures off is all
That is wanted here.
Yet life has been difficult for so long
Will it be any different
Without the struggle?
I wish I could say things will get better,
But in all reality I donít want the change.
This is me. A
black spot on the white canvas.

That's a stark metaphor for a survivor and the situation he faces every day - a black spot on a white canvas. There's so much to think about in that phrase.

I wish there was some way to "turn off the pictures" - another powerful phrase. Unfortunately I don;t think we get to do that. But what we can achieve is to deprive the images of their power to cause us any further harm in the future. I hope being here will help you in that quest.

Much love,

Nobody living can ever stop me
As I go walking my freedom highway.
Nobody living can make me turn back:
This land was made for you and me.
(Woody Guthrie)

Hi Thomas,

I liked your poem, it made me think of how all paintings are a snapshot in time of something the artist had in mind. And your "black spot on the white canvas" says a lot about the loneliness and isolation associated with abuse. Thanks for sharing it with us.
