Scranton police filed 87 child-pornography charges against a former Connecticut man who allegedly took explicit photographs of children as young as 4 years old.

Nicholas Pinto, 27, of the 2100 block of Farr Street, was arraigned Monday morning on charges of manufacturing and possessing child pornography, as well as related offenses, in Lackawanna County Court.

The charges come a month after the July 2 arrest of Mr. Pinto, who police say drew complaints after he was caught videotaping children outside his residence.

The police officer investigating the complaint, Sgt. Michael Mayer, also allegedly observed the man looking at images of a young boy bound and gagged with tape over his eyes. This led to an initial charge of manufacturing child pornography and another of possessing child pornography, police said.

City detectives followed up on the first complaint and were able to secure search warrants to seize digital cameras, a video camera and bondage equipment from Mr. Pinto's residence, police said.

A state police forensics unit obtained data from the cameras that revealed several pornographic images of children, police said.

"After taking the cameras to a state police forensic unit, there were numerous images and movies of children ranging in age from 4 to 11," said Detective Sgt. Robert Brenzel.

The Times-Tribune does not identify victims of alleged sexual abuse.

Sgt. Brenzel also said the FBI and U.S. attorney's office are expected to investigate this incident and could bring federal charges against the suspect.

Mr. Pinto's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Monday.

Glad they caught this guy. That's a terrible thing for a survivor to cope with - knowing that there are pornographic photos of himself as a kid "out there" in cyberspace.

In reading another article on this guy, he's facing 15/20 years for possessing the porn.

Here's what ticks me off.... In another unrelated case in my area, I local college professor raped a 10yo boy. He plead guilty. And now faces a MAXIMUM of 5 years in prison..... WTF!

I seriously hate how stupid our laws are sometimes.
