I recognize it in my life for sure. I have a very hard time meeting people in real life and usually hide out online. Trying to get over it but it seems like I take one step forward and one step back all the time.

I don't know if what I have is a "disorder" or just that I have low self-esteem. I think it's the later though. Like I don't feel worthy enough to be friends with people in real life. Or else I just don't know how to make adult friends because I'm so out of practice. I think it's easy to slap a disorder label on things, but it doesn't really solve things. *shrug*

Labels are abundant I got more labels than Campbell's soup but I don't pay any attention to them. I have one now and that is survivor and it works for me. I am kind of non-social but hey it's just the way I am. I have a small group of people I call friends and that is OK with me. I don't go lots of places, I'm uncomfortable around people I don't know, or in crowds. I don't rush to meet the new person at work or in the neighborhood. Can put a label on it if I want but it does not change the behavior.

I think diagnosing yourself as anti-social could be dangerous. There is too much to read into that label. Sociopaths have APD and if you read up on that its quite alarming. I would be more inclined to say introvert rather than anti-social since anti-social as most people commonly understand and use the words is inaccurate.

If you have taken the DSM-IV the results should be available to you through your therapist or psychiatrist. If you haven't taken the test ask your therapist about it.
Self diagnosis can be a disaster and self defeating.
I am speaking from my own experience.

Hey Lynch,

Don't scare yourself with such words like disorder etc. Yes you have some issues as a survivor of child sexual abuse (I guess anger, isolation..), but these are what can be corected and you will heal.

Do you have a T?

Alexey
