Walking through the summer lightening
hills flash in shocked surprise
going home to a sadness beyond depth
going home

Nimbus,

I can remember days like that - walking home from the train station, almost regretting returning to the people who were closest and dearest to me in all the world. All I can tell you is this one too will pass. Hang in there.

Much love,
Larry

Larry:

Most of my poetry is allegorical. This one is not. While it sounds exceedingly benign, I was heading off through the chaparral to die. There are details I simply cannot relate in a public forum, but no one, in the end, was harmed. If you knew the context, that, in itself, was a miracle. And there really was dry summer lightning illuminating the hills.

This was the end: The last in a series of suicide attempts that spanned 30 years. The last before my mind allowed me to know what really happened to me.

That war is now over. I know deep in my heart I will never be suicidal again. That is a very good thing.

imbus,

I'm glad you are past that. The issues that abuse imposes on us are terrible, to be sure, but suicide is never the answer. It's so good to see you are at peace with that truth now. It opens the way to a lot of options we don't see when we are in that dark place.

Much love,
Larry
