A few days ago, Rik posted a bit about the trial of the well-known British actor Chris Langham on charges of (a) having sex with a 14-year old and (b) downloading child porn. Well, the trial's over and he's been found not guilty of the underage sex but guilty of downloading child porn. So the jury hasn't fallen for his excuses that he was (a) researching a character and (b) trying to therapise himself. (He also claimed to have been a CSA victim.) Brilliant! Maybe it will have some deterrent effect on others, and perhaps it will at last stop the ridiculous defence of 'research.' Best of all, the judge has obviously accepted the seriousness of the charge by sending him to jail to await sentencing.
It was really good to see a sensible female CSA survivor discussing it in the serious program Newsnight - she said just what I think most of us would want, about how serious child porn is.
