To those of you who read my poems
And see me gnash my teeth some times
(and wonder at what my dentist bills must be):

Do not misconstrue the things I say.
I have no intention of losing this battle
I have fought too long and hard
Too many sleepless nights
Too many silent tears
To give up now

I am, alas, a tad bit slow at healing
But long ago quit looking at this thing as some great race
To gain a checkered flag
And lick my wounds
And wave good-bye to anguish

I started out this journey here in honesty
And pain, I must admit
A lot of it
And will continue on as honest as I know how to be

A journey that I hope will be complete before my death
But keep in mind I have only lived this life
This latest part,
A few short years

There have been victories
And wondrous friendships made along the way
And kept, I hope, forever
A few have disappeared, whom I shall miss
And one has died
A part of me died with him, I'm afriad
The rest of me much better for the knowing of that amazing soul

But, I mean never ever to imply defeat
Or any thought thereof
I would not be here
Or anywhere, I guess
If that thought ever crossed my mind

The bastard will not win
And should I not be completely healed at time of death
I still will never have admitted defeat
For I never once gave in
Stopped trying
And most of all, did not pass on a family gift
A gift so foul as to make the devil smile

That, I think, the greatest victory of all

So, do not misconstrue my wailing and my gnashing as a ship that goes missing in the night
I wail and gnash for good cause
And please notice that between those times
(of wailing and of gnashing)
I rejoice in victories, both large and small
And friendships
And all the love that surrounds me here

And please do the same
This is a wondrous place

And keep my wish for you
That you may get the checkered flag on down the road
And, when you do,
Please take the time to wave at me
Still trudging on
Just a lap or so behind

With love,

I'm healing now, and I wasn't sure I would.

You're not trudging along just a lap or so behind. You are with us, and we with you - always. In a real way it doesn't matter where one is on the path, as compared to others. We all learn and gain strength from each other, regardless of how we are coping, stumbling, falling, or advancing at any given moment.

Much love,

Nobody living can ever stop me
As I go walking my freedom highway.
Nobody living can make me turn back:
This land was made for you and me.
(Woody Guthrie)

Hey Dude-o,

I gave you a motorized skateboard so we could go on down the road in tandem. Gas it up and git yo butt moving! I am waiting.

Pushy frog, ain't I?
