This song has always been one of my favorites. It's off of Pearl Jam's first album, Ten. It's called "Alive".

The song takes on new meaning for me now that I have told my story. I am still alive. In fact, it's time to start really living. I've printed the lyrics, but for the full effect - you must watch the band perform it live on stage - here is a link to a YouTube version. Powerful and moving for me.

she said,
have I got a little story for you.
What you thought was your daddy was nothin' but a...
While you were sittin'
home alone at age thirteen
Your real daddy was dyin',
sorry you didn't see him, but I'm glad we talked...

Oh I, ohhhhhh, I'm still alive
Hey, I, I, ohhhhh, I'm still alive
Hey I, ohhhhh, I'm still alive

Oh, she walks slowly, across a young man's room
She said
I'm ready...for you
I can't remember anything to this very day
'Cept the look, the look...
Oh, you know where,
now I can't see,
I just stare...

I, I'm still alive
Hey I, but, I'm still alive
Hey I, boy, I'm still alive
Hey I, I, I, I'm still alive, yeah
Ooh yeah...yeah yeah yeah...oh...oh...

Is something wrong, she said
Well of course there is
You're still alive, she said
Oh, and do I deserve to be?
Is that the question?
And if so...if so...who answers...who answers...

I, ohhhh, I'm still alive
Hey I, ohhhh, I'm still alive
Hey I, but, I'm still alive
Yeah I, ooh, I'm still alive
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah

Great song, and great band dude. Ten was the first actual CD I ever bought... I'm also a big fan of Elderly Woman... (off Vs.) feels like it speaks to my little guy inside...

Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town

I seem to recognize your face
Haunting familiar yet I can't seem to place it
Cannot find the candle of thought to light your name
Lifetimes are catching up with me
All these changes taking place I wish I'd seen the place
But no one's ever taken me
Hearts and thoughts they fade fade away...
Hearts and thoughts they fade fade away...

I swear I recognize your breath
Memories like fingerprints are slowly raising
Me you wouldn't recall, for I'm not my former
It's hard when, your stuck upon the shelf
I changed by not changing at all, small town predicts my fate
Perhaps that's what no one wants to see
I just want to scream...hello...
My god its been so long, never dreamed you'd return
But now here you are, and here I am
Hearts and thoughts they fade...away...
Hearts and thoughts they fade fade away...
Hearts and thoughts they fade fade away...
Hearts and thoughts they fade fade away...
Hearts and thoughts they fade fade away...

"Look at every path closely and deliberately, then ask ourselves this crucial question: Does this path have a heart? If it does, then the path is good. If it doesn't, it is of no use."
