Isn't this special? What if there were a shortage of Priests? Would that merit preventative measures for those most at risk? Sorry to editorialize but this just annoys the piss outta me. I know I should not let it, but yet, it's true. More concern over the elderly catching the flu and not making it to Mass to drop their envelopes in the basket than they are about the thousands of perps they have turned upon generation after generation of kids...

All Parish Priests:

Because of the flu vaccine shortage, I am requesting that, as a protective measure in the Diocese of Burlington, we do not give the "Sign of Peace" or the chalice for communion starting Sunday, October 31, 2004 and remaining in effect unti Easter Sunday, March 27, 2005.

Praying for the good health of all, especially those most at risk, I am

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Most Reverend Kenneth A. Angell
Bishop of Burlington

Thanks for posting this Orodo.

In scanning the rest of the document (following the link), I see an incredible amount of attention to detail in movement of personnel.

It certainly makes it hard to believe that some members of the organizational hierarchy were blameless in permitting the sexual abuse to continue.

How many people were harmed by these acts?

It all looks so innocuous when written down. Reading between the lines one could almost see...

'Rev. X transferred to Parish Y (Billy Z. will be raped)'...

It makes me wonder what it is about organization and especially male dominated hierarchies that seems to allow individuals to ignore their personal conscience.

You've stimulated a lot of thought for me....I hope and pray that I do not succumb to that easy way out of personal responsibility as I continue to associate myself with groups of men.

Thanks, and by the way, go ahead and feel just as angry as you need to. That way you can experience the emotion instead of having to live with it day after day and have it screw up the rest of your life.
